Ask the Rabbi: When Will the Third Temple be Built?

Feb 28, 2019

Behold, I am sending My messenger to clear the way before Me, and the Lord whom you seek shall come to His Temple suddenly. As for the angel of the covenant that you desire, he is already coming.

Malachi 3:1

Great philosophers have long debated the age-old question: Which came first: the chicken or the egg? The Jews have had a similar ancient argument: Will the Third Temple be built before the Messiah arrives or will it be built after the Messiah comes? Rabbi Tuly Weisz explains, “We Jews believe the Bible describes our past, has relevance for our present and that everything that is promised for the future will come true. Some believe that first the Messiah will come and THEN he will build the Temple; Others point to this verse in Malachi that seems to describe first the Temple will be built and then the Messiah will come.”
