Chapter 99

Translation and Transliteration of 

Listen to this chapter in Hebrew:

1Hashem, enthroned on cherubim, is king, peoples tremble,* the earth quakes.

איְהֹוָה מָלָךְ יִרְגְּזוּ עַמִּים יֹשֵׁב כְּרוּבִים תָּנוּט הָאָרֶץ׃

2Hashem is great in Tzion, and exalted above all peoples.

ביְהֹוָה בְּצִיּוֹן גָּדוֹל וְרָם הוּא עַל־כָּל־הָעַמִּים׃

3They praise Your name as great and awesome; He is holy!

גיוֹדוּ שִׁמְךָ גָּדוֹל וְנוֹרָא קָדוֹשׁ הוּא׃

4Mighty king who loves justice, it was You who established equity, You who worked righteous judgment in Yaakov.

דוְעֹז מֶלֶךְ מִשְׁפָּט אָהֵב אַתָּה כּוֹנַנְתָּ מֵישָׁרִים מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה בְּיַעֲקֹב אַתָּה עָשִׂיתָ׃

5Exalt Hashem our God and bow down to His footstool; He is holy!

הרוֹמְמוּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ וְהִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לַהֲדֹם רַגְלָיו קָדוֹשׁ הוּא׃

6Moshe and Aharon among His Kohanim, Shmuel, among those who call on His name— when they called to Hashem, He answered them.

mo-SHEH v'-a-ha-RON b'-kho-na-NAV ush-mu-AYL b'-ko-r'-AY sh'-MO ko-REEM el a-do-NAI v'-HU ya-a-NAYM

ומֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן בְּכֹהֲנָיו וּשְׁמוּאֵל בְּקֹרְאֵי שְׁמוֹ קֹרִאים אֶל־יְהֹוָה וְהוּא יַעֲנֵם׃

99:6   Moshe and Aharon among His Kohanim

The Children of Israel were guided by Moshe and Aharon in the desert, and, once they were settled in the Land of Israel, great leaders such as Shmuel. All of these prophets called out to Hashem, and He answered them and guided them. Though He took vengeance on His people for their sins, Hashem is nevertheless a forgiving God who governs His people in Eretz Yisrael with equity, justice and righteousness. This is reason to raise God up and bow down to Him at His holy mountain, for God is truly and completely holy (verse 9).

7He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they obeyed His decrees, the law He gave them.

זבְּעַמּוּד עָנָן יְדַבֵּר אֲלֵיהֶם שָׁמְרוּ עֵדֹתָיו וְחֹק נָתַן־לָמוֹ׃

8Hashem our God, You answered them; You were a forgiving Hashem for them, but You exacted retribution for their misdeeds.

חיְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אַתָּה עֲנִיתָם אֵל נֹשֵׂא הָיִיתָ לָהֶם וְנֹקֵם עַל־עֲלִילוֹתָם׃

9Exalt Hashem our God, and bow toward His holy hill, for Hashem our God is holy.

טרוֹמְמוּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ וְהִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לְהַר קָדְשׁוֹ כִּי־קָדוֹשׁ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ׃
