Chapter 96

1Sing to Hashem a new song, sing to Hashem, all the earth.
אשִׁירוּ לַיהֹוָה שִׁיר חָדָשׁ שִׁירוּ לַיהֹוָה כָּל־הָאָרֶץ׃
2Sing to Hashem, bless His name, proclaim His victory day after day.
בשִׁירוּ לַיהֹוָה בָּרֲכוּ שְׁמוֹ בַּשְּׂרוּ מִיּוֹם־לְיוֹם יְשׁוּעָתוֹ׃
3Tell of His glory among the nations, His wondrous deeds, among all peoples.
sa-p'-RU va-go-YIM k'-vo-DO b'-khol ha-a-MEEM nif-l'-o-TAV
גסַפְּרוּ בַגּוֹיִם כְּבוֹדוֹ בְּכָל־הָעַמִּים נִפְלְאוֹתָיו׃
96:3 Among all peoples
The Land of Israel is the home of the Jewish people, and it is also the place from which the message of Hashem will go out to all the nations of the world. Psalm 96 charges each individual to sing praises of God. Just as the heavens and earth, forests and fields sing a song of praise to Him, so too, all people should declare Hashem as king and acknowledge His just dominion. The psalm concludes with God’s justice, since only through His absolute judgment will the nations of the world recognize His ways.
4For Hashem is great and much acclaimed, He is held in awe by all divine beings.
דכִּי גָדוֹל יְהֹוָה וּמְהֻלָּל מְאֹד נוֹרָא הוּא עַל־כָּל־אֱלֹהִים׃
5All the gods of the peoples are mere idols, but Hashem made the heavens.
הכִּי כָּל־אֱלֹהֵי הָעַמִּים אֱלִילִים וַיהֹוָה שָׁמַיִם עָשָׂה׃
6Glory and majesty are before Him; strength and splendor are in His temple.
והוֹד־וְהָדָר לְפָנָיו עֹז וְתִפְאֶרֶת בְּמִקְדָּשׁוֹ׃
7Ascribe to Hashem, O families of the peoples, ascribe to Hashem glory and strength.
זהָבוּ לַיהֹוָה מִשְׁפְּחוֹת עַמִּים הָבוּ לַיהֹוָה כָּבוֹד וָעֹז׃
8Ascribe to Hashem the glory of His name, bring tribute and enter His courts.
חהָבוּ לַיהֹוָה כְּבוֹד שְׁמוֹ שְׂאוּ־מִנְחָה וּבֹאוּ לְחַצְרוֹתָיו׃
9Bow down to Hashem majestic in holiness; tremble in His presence, all the earth!
טהִשְׁתַּחֲווּ לַיהֹוָה בְּהַדְרַת־קֹדֶשׁ חִילוּ מִפָּנָיו כָּל־הָאָרֶץ׃
10Declare among the nations, “Hashem is king!” the world stands firm; it cannot be shaken; He judges the peoples with equity.
יאִמְרוּ בַגּוֹיִם יְהֹוָה מָלָךְ אַף־תִּכּוֹן תֵּבֵל בַּל־תִּמּוֹט יָדִין עַמִּים בְּמֵישָׁרִים׃
11Let the heavens rejoice and the earth exult; let the sea and all within it thunder,
יאיִשְׂמְחוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וְתָגֵל הָאָרֶץ יִרְעַם הַיָּם וּמְלֹאוֹ׃
12the fields and everything in them exult; then shall all the trees of the forest shout for joy
יביַעֲלֹז שָׂדַי וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־בּוֹ אָז יְרַנְּנוּ כָּל־עֲצֵי־יָעַר׃
13at the presence of Hashem, for He is coming, for He is coming to rule the earth; He will rule the world justly, and its peoples in faithfulness.
יגלִפְנֵי יְהֹוָה כִּי בָא כִּי בָא לִשְׁפֹּט הָאָרֶץ יִשְׁפֹּט־תֵּבֵל בְּצֶדֶק וְעַמִּים בֶּאֱמוּנָתוֹ׃
