Chapter 24

Translation and Transliteration of 

Listen to this chapter in Hebrew:

1Of David. A psalm. The earth is Hashem's and all that it holds, the world and its inhabitants.

l'-da-VID miz-MOR la-do-NAI ha-A-retz um-lo-AH tay-VAYL v'-yo-sh'-VAY VAH

אלְדָוִד מִזְמוֹר לַיהֹוָה הָאָרֶץ וּמְלוֹאָהּ תֵּבֵל וְיֹשְׁבֵי בָהּ׃

24:1   The earth is Hashem’s and all that it holds

As King David says in this verse, “The earth is Hashem’s and all that it holds.” Just as the creator of a piece of art is the owner of his masterpiece, God, as creator, is the owner of the entire world. Only a creator can see the full potential of his creation, have a vision for its destiny and decide with whom to share it. Such is Hashem’s relationship with the world. He built it with a vision and shared it with mankind. As is stated over and over in the Tanakh, He chose to give the Land of Israel to the Jewish people.

2For He founded it upon the ocean, set it on the nether-streams.

בכִּי־הוּא עַל־יַמִּים יְסָדָהּ וְעַל־נְהָרוֹת יְכוֹנְנֶהָ׃

3Who may ascend the mountain of Hashem? Who may stand in His holy place?—

גמִי־יַעֲלֶה בְהַר־יְהֹוָה וּמִי־יָקוּם בִּמְקוֹם קָדְשׁוֹ׃

4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken a false oath by My life or sworn deceitfully.

דנְקִי כַפַּיִם וּבַר־לֵבָב אֲשֶׁר לֹא־נָשָׂא לַשָּׁוְא נַפְשִׁי וְלֹא נִשְׁבַּע לְמִרְמָה׃

5He shall carry away a blessing from Hashem, a just reward from Hashem, his deliverer.

היִשָּׂא בְרָכָה מֵאֵת יְהֹוָה וּצְדָקָה מֵאֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעוֹ׃

6Such is the circle of those who turn to Him, Yaakov, who seek Your presence. Selah.

וזֶה דּוֹר דרשו [דֹּרְשָׁיו] מְבַקְשֵׁי פָנֶיךָ יַעֲקֹב סֶלָה׃

7O gates, lift up your heads! Up high, you everlasting doors, so the King of glory may come in!

זשְׂאוּ שְׁעָרִים רָאשֵׁיכֶם וְהִנָּשְׂאוּ פִּתְחֵי עוֹלָם וְיָבוֹא מֶלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד׃

8Who is the King of glory?— Hashem, mighty and valiant, Hashem, valiant in battle.

חמִי זֶה מֶלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד יְהֹוָה עִזּוּז וְגִבּוֹר יְהֹוָה גִּבּוֹר מִלְחָמָה׃

9O gates, lift up your heads! Lift them up, you everlasting doors, so the King of glory may come in!

טשְׂאוּ שְׁעָרִים רָאשֵׁיכֶם וּשְׂאוּ פִּתְחֵי עוֹלָם וְיָבֹא מֶלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד׃

10Who is the King of glory?— the lord of hosts, He is the King of glory! Selah.

ימִי הוּא זֶה מֶלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד יְהֹוָה צְבָאוֹת הוּא מֶלֶךְ הַכָּבוֹד סֶלָה׃
