Chapter 107

1 “Praise Hashem, for He is good; His steadfast love is eternal!”

אהֹדוּ לַיהֹוָה כִּי־טוֹב כִּי לְעוֹלָם חַסְדּוֹ׃

2Thus let the redeemed of Hashem say, those He redeemed from adversity,

ביֹאמְרוּ גְּאוּלֵי יְהֹוָה אֲשֶׁר גְּאָלָם מִיַּד־צָר׃

3whom He gathered in from the lands, from east and west, from the north and from the sea.

גוּמֵאֲרָצוֹת קִבְּצָם מִמִּזְרָח וּמִמַּעֲרָב מִצָּפוֹן וּמִיָּם׃

4Some lost their way in the wilderness, in the wasteland; they found no settled place.

דתָּעוּ בַמִּדְבָּר בִּישִׁימוֹן דָּרֶךְ עִיר מוֹשָׁב לֹא מָצָאוּ׃

5Hungry and thirsty, their spirit failed.

הרְעֵבִים גַּם־צְמֵאִים נַפְשָׁם בָּהֶם תִּתְעַטָּף׃

6In their adversity they cried to Hashem, and He rescued them from their troubles.

ווַיִּצְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהֹוָה בַּצַּר לָהֶם מִמְּצוּקוֹתֵיהֶם יַצִּילֵם׃

7He showed them a direct way to reach a settled place.

זוַיַּדְרִיכֵם בְּדֶרֶךְ יְשָׁרָה לָלֶכֶת אֶל־עִיר מוֹשָׁב׃

8Let them praise Hashem for His steadfast love, His wondrous deeds for mankind;

yo-DU la-do-NAI khas-DO v'-nif-l'-o-TAV liv-NAY a-DAM

חיוֹדוּ לַיהֹוָה חַסְדּוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו לִבְנֵי אָדָם׃

9for He has satisfied the thirsty, filled the hungry with all good things.

טכִּי־הִשְׂבִּיעַ נֶפֶשׁ שֹׁקֵקָה וְנֶפֶשׁ רְעֵבָה מִלֵּא־טוֹב׃

10Some lived in deepest darkness, bound in cruel irons,

ייֹשְׁבֵי חֹשֶׁךְ וְצַלְמָוֶת אֲסִירֵי עֳנִי וּבַרְזֶל׃

11because they defied the word of Hashem, spurned the counsel of the Most High.

יאכִּי־הִמְרוּ אִמְרֵי־אֵל וַעֲצַת עֶלְיוֹן נָאָצוּ׃

12He humbled their hearts through suffering; they stumbled with no one to help.

יבוַיַּכְנַע בֶּעָמָל לִבָּם כָּשְׁלוּ וְאֵין עֹזֵר׃

13In their adversity they cried to Hashem, and He rescued them from their troubles.

יגוַיִּזְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהֹוָה בַּצַּר לָהֶם מִמְּצֻקוֹתֵיהֶם יוֹשִׁיעֵם׃

14He brought them out of deepest darkness, broke their bonds asunder.

ידיוֹצִיאֵם מֵחֹשֶׁךְ וְצַלְמָוֶת וּמוֹסְרוֹתֵיהֶם יְנַתֵּק׃

15Let them praise Hashem for His steadfast love, His wondrous deeds for mankind,

טויוֹדוּ לַיהֹוָה חַסְדּוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו לִבְנֵי אָדָם׃

16For He shattered gates of bronze, He broke their iron bars.

טזכִּי־שִׁבַּר דַּלְתוֹת נְחֹשֶׁת וּבְרִיחֵי בַרְזֶל גִּדֵּעַ׃

17There were fools who suffered for their sinful way, and for their iniquities.

יזאֱוִלִים מִדֶּרֶךְ פִּשְׁעָם וּמֵעֲוׂנֹתֵיהֶם יִתְעַנּוּ׃

18All food was loathsome to them; they reached the gates of death.

יחכָּל־אֹכֶל תְּתַעֵב נַפְשָׁם וַיַּגִּיעוּ עַד־שַׁעֲרֵי מָוֶת׃

19In their adversity they cried to Hashem and He saved them from their troubles.

יטוַיִּזְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהֹוָה בַּצַּר לָהֶם מִמְּצֻקוֹתֵיהֶם יוֹשִׁיעֵם׃

20He gave an order and healed them; He delivered them from the pits.

כיִשְׁלַח דְּבָרוֹ וְיִרְפָּאֵם וִימַלֵּט מִשְּׁחִיתוֹתָם׃

21Let them praise Hashem for His steadfast love, His wondrous deeds for mankind.

כאיוֹדוּ לַיהֹוָה חַסְדּוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו לִבְנֵי אָדָם׃

22Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and tell His deeds in joyful song.

כבוְיִזְבְּחוּ זִבְחֵי תוֹדָה וִיסַפְּרוּ מַעֲשָׂיו בְּרִנָּה׃

23Others go down to the sea in ships, ply their trade in the mighty waters;

כגיוֹרְדֵי הַיָּם בָּאֳנִיּוֹת עֹשֵׂי מְלָאכָה בְּמַיִם רַבִּים׃

24they have seen the works of Hashem and His wonders in the deep.

כדהֵמָּה רָאוּ מַעֲשֵׂי יְהֹוָה וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו בִּמְצוּלָה׃

25By His word He raised a storm wind that made the waves surge.

כהוַיֹּאמֶר וַיַּעֲמֵד רוּחַ סְעָרָה וַתְּרוֹמֵם גַּלָּיו׃

26Mounting up to the heaven, plunging down to the depths, disgorging in their misery,

כויַעֲלוּ שָׁמַיִם יֵרְדוּ תְהוֹמוֹת נַפְשָׁם בְּרָעָה תִתְמוֹגָג׃

27they reeled and staggered like a drunken man, all their skill to no avail.

כזיָחוֹגּוּ וְיָנוּעוּ כַּשִּׁכּוֹר וְכָל־חָכְמָתָם תִּתְבַּלָּע׃

28In their adversity they cried to Hashem, and He saved them from their troubles.

כחוַיִּצְעֲקוּ אֶל־יְהֹוָה בַּצַּר לָהֶם וּמִמְּצוּקֹתֵיהֶם יוֹצִיאֵם׃

29He reduced the storm to a whisper; the waves were stilled.

כטיָקֵם סְעָרָה לִדְמָמָה וַיֶּחֱשׁוּ גַּלֵּיהֶם׃

30They rejoiced when all was quiet, and He brought them to the port they desired.

לוַיִּשְׂמְחוּ כִי־יִשְׁתֹּקוּ וַיַּנְחֵם אֶל־מְחוֹז חֶפְצָם׃

31Let them praise Hashem for His steadfast love, His wondrous deeds for mankind.

לאיוֹדוּ לַיהֹוָה חַסְדּוֹ וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו לִבְנֵי אָדָם׃

32Let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people, acclaim Him in the assembly of the elders.

לבוִירֹמְמוּהוּ בִּקְהַל־עָם וּבְמוֹשַׁב זְקֵנִים יְהַלְלוּהוּ׃

33He turns the rivers into a wilderness, springs of water into thirsty land,

לגיָשֵׂם נְהָרוֹת לְמִדְבָּר וּמֹצָאֵי מַיִם לְצִמָּאוֹן׃

34fruitful land into a salt marsh, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.

לדאֶרֶץ פְּרִי לִמְלֵחָה מֵרָעַת יֹשְׁבֵי בָהּ׃

35He turns the wilderness into pools, parched land into springs of water.

להיָשֵׂם מִדְבָּר לַאֲגַם־מַיִם וְאֶרֶץ צִיָּה לְמֹצָאֵי מָיִם׃

36There He settles the hungry; they build a place to settle in.

לווַיּוֹשֶׁב שָׁם רְעֵבִים וַיְכוֹנְנוּ עִיר מוֹשָׁב׃

37They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest.

לזוַיִּזְרְעוּ שָׂדוֹת וַיִּטְּעוּ כְרָמִים וַיַּעֲשׂוּ פְּרִי תְבוּאָה׃

38He blesses them and they increase greatly; and He does not let their cattle decrease,

לחוַיְבָרֲכֵם וַיִּרְבּוּ מְאֹד וּבְהֶמְתָּם לֹא יַמְעִיט׃

39after they had been few and crushed by oppression, misery, and sorrow.

לטוַיִּמְעֲטוּ וַיָּשֹׁחוּ מֵעֹצֶר רָעָה וְיָגוֹן׃

40He pours contempt on great men and makes them lose their way in trackless deserts;

משֹׁפֵךְ בּוּז עַל־נְדִיבִים וַיַּתְעֵם בְּתֹהוּ לֹא־דָרֶךְ׃

41but the needy He secures from suffering, and increases their families like flocks.

מאוַיְשַׂגֵּב אֶבְיוֹן מֵעוֹנִי וַיָּשֶׂם כַּצֹּאן מִשְׁפָּחוֹת׃

42The upright see it and rejoice; the mouth of all wrongdoers is stopped.

מביִרְאוּ יְשָׁרִים וְיִשְׂמָחוּ וְכָל־עַוְלָה קָפְצָה פִּיהָ׃

43The wise man will take note of these things; he will consider the steadfast love of Hashem.

מגמִי־חָכָם וְיִשְׁמָר־אֵלֶּה וְיִתְבּוֹנְנוּ חַסְדֵי יְהֹוָה׃
