I - Chapter 28

1David assembled all the officers of Yisrael—the tribal officers, the divisional officers who served the king, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, and the stewards of all the property and cattle of the king and his sons, with the eunuchs and the warriors, all the men of substance—to Yerushalayim.

אוַיַּקְהֵל דָּוִיד אֶת־כָּל־שָׂרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל שָׂרֵי הַשְּׁבָטִים וְשָׂרֵי הַמַּחְלְקוֹת הַמְשָׁרְתִים אֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ וְשָׂרֵי הָאֲלָפִים וְשָׂרֵי הַמֵּאוֹת וְשָׂרֵי כָל־רְכוּשׁ־וּמִקְנֶה לַמֶּלֶךְ וּלְבָנָיו עִם־הַסָּרִיסִים וְהַגִּבּוֹרִים וּלְכָל־גִּבּוֹר חָיִל אֶל־יְרוּשָׁלָ ִם׃

2King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brothers, my people! I wanted to build a resting-place for the Aron Brit Hashem, for the footstool of our God, and I laid aside material for building.

בוַיָּקָם דָּוִיד הַמֶּלֶךְ עַל־רַגְלָיו וַיֹּאמֶר שְׁמָעוּנִי אַחַי וְעַמִּי אֲנִי עִם־לְבָבִי לִבְנוֹת בֵּית מְנוּחָה לַאֲרוֹן בְּרִית־יְהֹוָה וְלַהֲדֹם רַגְלֵי אֱלֹהֵינוּ וַהֲכִינוֹתִי לִבְנוֹת׃

3But Hashem said to me,‘You will not build a house for My name, for you are a man of battles and have shed blood.'

גוְהָאֱלֹהִים אָמַר לִי לֹא־תִבְנֶה בַיִת לִשְׁמִי כִּי אִישׁ מִלְחָמוֹת אַתָּה וְדָמִים שָׁפָכְתָּ׃

4God of Yisrael chose me of all my father's house to be king over Yisrael forever. For He chose Yehuda to be ruler, and of the family of Yehuda, my father's house; and of my father's sons, He preferred to make me king over all Yisrael;

דוַיִּבְחַר יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּי מִכֹּל בֵּית־אָבִי לִהְיוֹת לְמֶלֶךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל לְעוֹלָם כִּי בִיהוּדָה בָּחַר לְנָגִיד וּבְבֵית יְהוּדָה בֵּית אָבִי וּבִבְנֵי אָבִי בִּי רָצָה לְהַמְלִיךְ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

5and of all my sons—for many are the sons Hashem gave me—He chose my son Shlomo to sit on the throne of the kingdom of Hashem over Yisrael.

הוּמִכָּל־בָּנַי כִּי רַבִּים בָּנִים נָתַן לִי יְהֹוָה וַיִּבְחַר בִּשְׁלֹמֹה בְנִי לָשֶׁבֶת עַל־כִּסֵּא מַלְכוּת יְהֹוָה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

6He said to me,‘It will be your son Shlomo who will build My House and My courts, for I have chosen him to be a son to Me, and I will be a father to him.

va-YO-mer LEE sh'-lo-MOH vin-KHA hu yiv-NEH vay-TEE va-kha-tzay-ro-TAI kee va-KHAR-tee VO LEE v'-VAYN va-a-NEE eh-yeh LO l'-AV

ווַיֹּאמֶר לִי שְׁלֹמֹה בִנְךָ הוּא־יִבְנֶה בֵיתִי וַחֲצֵרוֹתָי כִּי־בָחַרְתִּי בוֹ לִי לְבֵן וַאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה־לּוֹ לְאָב׃

7I will establish his kingdom forever, if he keeps firmly to the observance of My commandments and rules as he does now.'

זוַהֲכִינוֹתִי אֶת־מַלְכוּתוֹ עַד־לְעוֹלָם אִם־יֶחֱזַק לַעֲשׂוֹת מִצְוׂתַי וּמִשְׁפָּטַי כַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה׃

8And now, in the sight of all Yisrael, the congregation of Hashem, and in the hearing of our God, [I say:] Observe and apply yourselves to all the commandments of Hashem your God in order that you may possess this good land and bequeath it to your children after you forever.

חוְעַתָּה לְעֵינֵי כָל־יִשְׂרָאֵל קְהַל־יְהֹוָה וּבְאָזְנֵי אֱלֹהֵינוּ שִׁמְרוּ וְדִרְשׁוּ כָּל־מִצְוׂת יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לְמַעַן תִּירְשׁוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ הַטּוֹבָה וְהִנְחַלְתֶּם לִבְנֵיכֶם אַחֲרֵיכֶם עַד־עוֹלָם׃

9“And you, my son Shlomo, know the God of your father, and serve Him with single mind and fervent heart, for Hashem searches all minds and discerns the design of every thought; if you seek Him He will be available to you, but if you forsake Him He will abandon you forever.

טוְאַתָּה שְׁלֹמֹה־בְנִי דַּע אֶת־אֱלֹהֵי אָבִיךָ וְעָבְדֵהוּ בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם וּבְנֶפֶשׁ חֲפֵצָה כִּי כָל־לְבָבוֹת דּוֹרֵשׁ יְהֹוָה וְכָל־יֵצֶר מַחֲשָׁבוֹת מֵבִין אִם־תִּדְרְשֶׁנּוּ יִמָּצֵא לָךְ וְאִם־תַּעַזְבֶנּוּ יַזְנִיחֲךָ לָעַד׃

10See then, Hashem chose you to build a house as the sanctuary; be strong and do it.”

ירְאֵה עַתָּה כִּי־יְהֹוָה בָּחַר בְּךָ לִבְנוֹת־בַּיִת לַמִּקְדָּשׁ חֲזַק וַעֲשֵׂה׃

11David gave his son Shlomo the plan of the porch and its houses, its storerooms and its upper chambers and inner chambers; and of the place of the Aron-cover;

יאוַיִּתֵּן דָּוִיד לִשְׁלֹמֹה בְנוֹ אֶת־תַּבְנִית הָאוּלָם וְאֶת־בָּתָּיו וְגַנְזַכָּיו וַעֲלִיֹּתָיו וַחֲדָרָיו הַפְּנִימִים וּבֵית הַכַּפֹּרֶת׃

12and the plan of all that he had by the spirit: of the courts of the House of Hashem and all its surrounding chambers, and of the treasuries of the House of Hashem and of the treasuries of the holy things;

יבוְתַבְנִית כֹּל אֲשֶׁר הָיָה בָרוּחַ עִמּוֹ לְחַצְרוֹת בֵּית־יְהֹוָה וּלְכָל־הַלְּשָׁכוֹת סָבִיב לְאֹצְרוֹת בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים וּלְאֹצְרוֹת הַקֳּדָשִׁים׃

13the divisions of Kohanim and Leviim for all the work of the service of the House of Hashem and all the vessels of the service of the House of Hashem;

יגוּלְמַחְלְקוֹת הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם וּלְכָל־מְלֶאכֶת עֲבוֹדַת בֵּית־יְהֹוָה וּלְכָל־כְּלֵי עֲבוֹדַת בֵּית־יְהֹוָה׃

14and gold, the weight of gold for vessels of every sort of use; silver for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all the vessels of every kind of service;

ידלַזָּהָב בַּמִּשְׁקָל לַזָּהָב לְכָל־כְּלֵי עֲבוֹדָה וַעֲבוֹדָה לְכֹל כְּלֵי הַכֶּסֶף בְּמִשְׁקָל לְכָל־כְּלֵי עֲבוֹדָה וַעֲבוֹדָה׃

15the weight of the gold menorahs and their gold lamps, and the weight of the silver menorahs, each menorah and its silver lamps, according to the use of every menorah;

טווּמִשְׁקָל לִמְנֹרוֹת הַזָּהָב וְנֵרֹתֵיהֶם זָהָב בְּמִשְׁקַל־מְנוֹרָה וּמְנוֹרָה וְנֵרֹתֶיהָ וְלִמְנֹרוֹת הַכֶּסֶף בְּמִשְׁקָל לִמְנוֹרָה וְנֵרֹתֶיהָ כַּעֲבוֹדַת מְנוֹרָה וּמְנוֹרָה׃

16and the weight of gold for the tables of the rows of bread, for each table, and of silver for the silver tables;

טזוְאֶת־הַזָּהָב מִשְׁקָל לְשֻׁלְחֲנוֹת הַמַּעֲרֶכֶת לְשֻׁלְחַן וְשֻׁלְחָן וְכֶסֶף לְשֻׁלְחֲנוֹת הַכָּסֶף׃

17and of the pure gold for the forks and the basins and the jars; and the weight of the gold bowls, every bowl; and the weight of the silver bowls, each and every bowl;

יזוְהַמִּזְלָגוֹת וְהַמִּזְרָקוֹת וְהַקְּשָׂוׂת זָהָב טָהוֹר וְלִכְפוֹרֵי הַזָּהָב בְּמִשְׁקָל לִכְפוֹר וּכְפוֹר וְלִכְפוֹרֵי הַכֶּסֶף בְּמִשְׁקָל לִכְפוֹר וּכְפוֹר׃

18the weight of refined gold for the incense mizbayach and the gold for the figure of the chariot—the cherubs—those with outspread wings screening the Aron Brit Hashem.

יחוּלְמִזְבַּח הַקְּטֹרֶת זָהָב מְזֻקָּק בַּמִּשְׁקָל וּלְתַבְנִית הַמֶּרְכָּבָה הַכְּרֻבִים זָהָב לְפֹרְשִׂים וְסֹכְכִים עַל־אֲרוֹן בְּרִית־יְהֹוָה׃

19“All this that Hashem made me understand by His hand on me, I give you in writing—the plan of all the works.”

יטהַכֹּל בִּכְתָב מִיַּד יְהֹוָה עָלַי הִשְׂכִּיל כֹּל מַלְאֲכוֹת הַתַּבְנִית׃

20David said to his son Shlomo, “Be strong and of good courage and do it; do not be afraid or dismayed, for Hashem my God is with you; He will not fail you or forsake you till all the work on the House of Hashem is done.

כוַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד לִשְׁלֹמֹה בְנוֹ חֲזַק וֶאֱמַץ וַעֲשֵׂה אַל־תִּירָא וְאַל־תֵּחָת כִּי יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהִים אֱלֹהַי עִמָּךְ לֹא יַרְפְּךָ וְלֹא יַעַזְבֶךָּ עַד־לִכְלוֹת כָּל־מְלֶאכֶת עֲבוֹדַת בֵּית־יְהֹוָה׃

21Here are the divisions of the Kohanim and Leviim for all kinds of service of the House of Hashem, and with you in all the work are willing men, skilled in all sorts of tasks; also the officers and all the people are at your command.”

כאוְהִנֵּה מַחְלְקוֹת הַכֹּהֲנִים וְהַלְוִיִּם לְכָל־עֲבוֹדַת בֵּית הָאֱלֹהִים וְעִמְּךָ בְכָל־מְלָאכָה לְכָל־נָדִיב בַּחָכְמָה לְכָל־עֲבוֹדָה וְהַשָּׂרִים וְכָל־הָעָם לְכָל־דְּבָרֶיךָ׃
