1He had houses made for himself in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the Aron of Hashem, and pitched a tent for it.
2Then David gave orders that none but the Leviim were to carry the Aron of Hashem, for Hashem had chosen them to carry the Aron of Hashem and to minister to Him forever.
3David assembled all Yisrael in Yerushalayim to bring up the Aron of Hashem to its place, which he had prepared for it.

15:3 David assembled all Yisrael in Yerushalayim
David summoned the entire Nation of Israel to bring the Aron HaBrit to its place in the heart of Yerushalayim. Such a public demonstration was necessary because this was a truly momentous event: King David was bringing the spiritual center, or focal point, of the people to the spiritual center of the land. This highlights the never-ending bond between the People of Israel and the Land of Israel, which is cemented by their covenant with the God of Israel.
4Then David gathered together the Aaronides and the Leviim:
5the sons of Kehat: Uriel the officer and his kinsmen—120;
6the sons of Merari: Asaiah the officer and his kinsmen—220;
7the sons of Gershom: Yoel the officer and his kinsmen—130;
8the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaya the officer and his kinsmen—200;
9the sons of Chevron: Eliel the officer and his kinsmen—80;
10the sons of Uzziel: Aminadav the officer and his kinsmen—112.
11David sent for Tzadok and Evyatar the Kohanim, and for the Leviim: Uriel, Asaiah, Yoel, Shemaya, Eliel, and Aminadav.
12He said to them, “You are the heads of the clans of the Leviim; sanctify yourselves, you and your kinsmen, and bring up the Aron of Hashem God of Yisrael to [the place] I have prepared for it.
13Because you were not there the first time, Hashem our God burst out against us, for we did not show due regard for Him.”
14The Kohanim and Leviim sanctified themselves in order to bring up the Aron of Hashem God of Yisrael.
15The Leviim carried the Aron of Hashem by means of poles on their shoulders, as Moshe had commanded in accordance with the word of Hashem.
16David ordered the officers of the Leviim to install their kinsmen, the singers, with musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, joyfully making their voices heard.
17So the Leviim installed Hayman son of Yoel and, of his kinsmen, Asaf son of Berechya; and, of the sons of Merari their kinsmen, Ethan son of Kushaiah.
18Together with them were their kinsmen of second rank, Zecharya, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Yechiel, Unni, Eliav, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphalehu, Mikneiah, Oved Edom and Jeiel the gatekeepers.
19Also the singers Hayman, Asaf, and Ethan to sound the bronze cymbals,
20and Zecharya, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Yechiel, Unni, Eliav, Maaseiah, and Benaiah with harps on alamoth;
21also Mattithiah, Eliphalehu, Mikneiah, Obededom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, with lyres to lead on the sheminith;
22also Chenaniah, officer of the Leviim in song; he was in charge of the song because he was a master.
23Berechya and Elkana were gatekeepers for the Aron.
24Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zecharya, Benaiah, and Eliezer the Kohanim sounded the trumpets before the Aron of Hashem, and Obededom and Jehiah were gatekeepers for the Aron.
25Then David and the elders of Yisrael and the officers of the thousands who were going to bring up the Aron Brit Hashem from the house of Oved Edom were joyful.
26Since Hashem helped the Leviim who were carrying the Aron Brit Hashem, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
27Now David and all the Leviim who were carrying the Aron, and the singers and Chenaniah, officer of song of the singers, were wrapped in robes of fine linen, and David wore a linen ephod.
28All Yisrael brought up the Aron Brit Hashem with shouts and with blasts of the shofar, with trumpets and cymbals, playing on harps and lyres.
29As the Aron Brit Hashem arrived at the City of David, Michal daughter of Shaul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing, and she despised him for it.
