I - Chapter 1

1Adam, Shet, Enosh;

אאָדָם שֵׁת אֱנוֹשׁ׃

2Keinan, Mehalalel, Yered;

בקֵינָן מַהֲלַלְאֵל יָרֶד׃

3Chanoch, Metushelach, Lemech;

גחֲנוֹךְ מְתוּשֶׁלַח לָמֶךְ׃

4Noach, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

דנֹחַ שֵׁם חָם וָיָפֶת׃

5The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Media, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

הבְּנֵי יֶפֶת גֹּמֶר וּמָגוֹג וּמָדַי וְיָוָן וְתֻבָל וּמֶשֶׁךְ וְתִירָס׃

6The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Diphath, and Togarmah.

ווּבְנֵי גֹּמֶר אַשְׁכֲּנַז וְדִיפַת וְתוֹגַרְמָה׃

7The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.

זוּבְנֵי יָוָן אֱלִישָׁה וְתַרְשִׁישָׁה כִּתִּים וְרוֹדָנִים׃

8The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

חבְּנֵי חָם כּוּשׁ וּמִצְרַיִם פּוּט וּכְנָעַן׃

9The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raama, and Sabteca. The sons of Raama: Sheba and Dedan.

טוּבְנֵי כוּשׁ סְבָא וַחֲוִילָה וְסַבְתָּא וְרַעְמָא וְסַבְתְּכָא וּבְנֵי רַעְמָא שְׁבָא וּדְדָן׃

10Cush begot Nimrod; he was the first mighty one on earth.

יוְכוּשׁ יָלַד אֶת־נִמְרוֹד הוּא הֵחֵל לִהְיוֹת גִּבּוֹר בָּאָרֶץ׃

11Mizraim begot the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim,

יאוּמִצְרַיִם יָלַד אֶת־לודיים [לוּדִים] וְאֶת־עֲנָמִים וְאֶת־לְהָבִים וְאֶת־נַפְתֻּחִים׃

12the Pathrusim, the Casluhim (whence the Philistines came forth), and the Caphtorim.

יבוְאֶת־פַּתְרֻסִים וְאֶת־כַּסְלֻחִים אֲשֶׁר יָצְאוּ מִשָּׁם פְּלִשְׁתִּים וְאֶת־כַּפְתֹּרִים׃

13Canaan begot Sidon his first-born, and Heth,

יגוּכְנַעַן יָלַד אֶת־צִידוֹן בְּכֹרוֹ וְאֶת־חֵת׃

14and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,

ידוְאֶת־הַיְבוּסִי וְאֶת־הָאֱמֹרִי וְאֵת הַגִּרְגָּשִׁי׃

15the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,

טווְאֶת־הַחִוִּי וְאֶת־הַעַרְקִי וְאֶת־הַסִּינִי׃

16the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.

טזוְאֶת־הָאַרְוָדִי וְאֶת־הַצְּמָרִי וְאֶת־הַחֲמָתִי׃

17The sons of Shem: Elam, Assyria, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

יזבְּנֵי שֵׁם עֵילָם וְאַשּׁוּר וְאַרְפַּכְשַׁד וְלוּד וַאֲרָם וְעוּץ וְחוּל וְגֶתֶר וָמֶשֶׁךְ׃

18Arpachshad begot Shelach; and Shelach begot Ever.

יחוְאַרְפַּכְשַׁד יָלַד אֶת־שָׁלַח וְשֶׁלַח יָלַד אֶת־עֵבֶר׃

19Two sons were born to Ever: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother Joktan.

יטוּלְעֵבֶר יֻלַּד שְׁנֵי בָנִים שֵׁם הָאֶחָד פֶּלֶג כִּי בְיָמָיו נִפְלְגָה הָאָרֶץ וְשֵׁם אָחִיו יָקְטָן׃

20Joktan begot Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

כוְיָקְטָן יָלַד אֶת־אַלְמוֹדָד וְאֶת־שָׁלֶף וְאֶת־חֲצַרְמָוֶת וְאֶת־יָרַח׃

21Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

כאוְאֶת־הֲדוֹרָם וְאֶת־אוּזָל וְאֶת־דִּקְלָה׃

22Ebal, Abimael, Sheba,

כבוְאֶת־עֵיבָל וְאֶת־אֲבִימָאֵל וְאֶת־שְׁבָא׃

23Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan.

כגוְאֶת־אוֹפִיר וְאֶת־חֲוִילָה וְאֶת־יוֹבָב כָּל־אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי יָקְטָן׃

24Shem, Arpachshad, Shelach;

כדשֵׁם אַרְפַּכְשַׁד שָׁלַח׃

25Ever, Peleg, Re'u;

כהעֵבֶר פֶּלֶג רְעוּ׃

26Serug, Nachor, Terach;

כושְׂרוּג נָחוֹר תָּרַח׃

27Avram, that is, Avraham.

כזאַבְרָם הוּא אַבְרָהָם׃

28The sons of Avraham: Yitzchak and Ishmael.

כחבְּנֵי אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל׃

29This is their line: The first-born of Ishmael, Nebaioth; and Kedar, Abdeel, Mibsam,

כטאֵלֶּה תֹּלְדוֹתָם בְּכוֹר יִשְׁמָעֵאל נְבָיוֹת וְקֵדָר וְאַדְבְּאֵל וּמִבְשָׂם׃

30Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

למִשְׁמָע וְדוּמָה מַשָּׂא חֲדַד וְתֵימָא׃

31Jetur, Naphish, and Kedmah. These are the sons of Ishmael.

לאיְטוּר נָפִישׁ וָקֵדְמָה אֵלֶּה הֵם בְּנֵי יִשְׁמָעֵאל׃

32The sons of Keturah, Avraham's concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan.

לבוּבְנֵי קְטוּרָה פִּילֶגֶשׁ אַבְרָהָם יָלְדָה אֶת־זִמְרָן וְיָקְשָׁן וּמְדָן וּמִדְיָן וְיִשְׁבָּק וְשׁוּחַ וּבְנֵי יָקְשָׁן שְׁבָא וּדְדָן׃

33The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Enoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the descendants of Keturah.

לגוּבְנֵי מִדְיָן עֵיפָה וָעֵפֶר וַחֲנוֹךְ וַאֲבִידָע וְאֶלְדָּעָה כָּל־אֵלֶּה בְּנֵי קְטוּרָה׃

34Avraham begot Yitzchak. The sons of Yitzchak: Esau and Yisrael.

לדוַיּוֹלֶד אַבְרָהָם אֶת־יִצְחָק בְּנֵי יִצְחָק עֵשָׂו וְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃

35The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

להבְּנֵי עֵשָׂו אֱלִיפַז רְעוּאֵל וִיעוּשׁ וְיַעְלָם וְקֹרַח׃

36The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zephi, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna, and Amalek.

לובְּנֵי אֱלִיפָז תֵּימָן וְאוֹמָר צְפִי וְגַעְתָּם קְנַז וְתִמְנָע וַעֲמָלֵק׃

37The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

לזבְּנֵי רְעוּאֵל נַחַת זֶרַח שַׁמָּה וּמִזָּה׃

38The sons of Seir: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

לחוּבְנֵי שֵׂעִיר לוֹטָן וְשׁוֹבָל וְצִבְעוֹן וַעֲנָה וְדִישֹׁן וְאֵצֶר וְדִישָׁן׃

39The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam; and Lotan's sister was Timna.

לטוּבְנֵי לוֹטָן חֹרִי וְהוֹמָם וַאֲחוֹת לוֹטָן תִּמְנָע׃

40The sons of Shobal: Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah.

מבְּנֵי שׁוֹבָל עַלְיָן וּמָנַחַת וְעֵיבָל שְׁפִי וְאוֹנָם וּבְנֵי צִבְעוֹן אַיָּה וַעֲנָה׃

41The sons of Anah: Dishon. The sons of Dishon: Hamran, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

מאבְּנֵי עֲנָה דִּישׁוֹן וּבְנֵי דִישׁוֹן חַמְרָן וְאֶשְׁבָּן וְיִתְרָן וּכְרָן׃

42The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Jaakan. The sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran.

מבבְּנֵי־אֵצֶר בִּלְהָן וְזַעֲוָן יַעֲקָן בְּנֵי דִישׁוֹן עוּץ וַאֲרָן׃

43These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites: Bela son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

v'-AY-leh ha-m'-la-KHEEM a-SHER ma-l'-KHU b'-E-retz e-DOM lif-NAY m'-lokh ME-lekh liv-NAY yis-ra-AYL BE-la ben b'-OR v'-SHAYM ee-RO din-HA-vah

מגוְאֵלֶּה הַמְּלָכִים אֲשֶׁר מָלְכוּ בְּאֶרֶץ אֱדוֹם לִפְנֵי מְלָךְ־מֶלֶךְ לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּלַע בֶּן־בְּעוֹר וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ דִּנְהָבָה׃

44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

מדוַיָּמָת בָּלַע וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו יוֹבָב בֶּן־זֶרַח מִבָּצְרָה׃

45When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

מהוַיָּמָת יוֹבָב וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו חוּשָׁם מֵאֶרֶץ הַתֵּימָנִי׃

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king, and the name of his city was Avith.

מווַיָּמָת חוּשָׁם וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו הֲדַד בֶּן־בְּדַד הַמַּכֶּה אֶת־מִדְיָן בִּשְׂדֵה מוֹאָב וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ עיות [עֲוִית׃]

47When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah succeeded him as king.

מזוַיָּמָת הֲדָד וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו שַׂמְלָה מִמַּשְׂרֵקָה׃

48When Samlah died, Saul of Rehoboth-on-the-River succeeded him as king.

מחוַיָּמָת שַׂמְלָה וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו שָׁאוּל מֵרְחֹבוֹת הַנָּהָר׃

49When Saul died, Baal-hanan son of Achbor succeeded him as king.

מטוַיָּמָת שָׁאוּל וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו בַּעַל חָנָן בֶּן־עַכְבּוֹר׃

50When Baal-hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king; and the name of his city was Pai, and his wife's name Mehetabel daughter of Matred daughter of Me-zahab.

נוַיָּמָת בַּעַל חָנָן וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו הֲדַד וְשֵׁם עִירוֹ פָּעִי וְשֵׁם אִשְׁתּוֹ מְהֵיטַבְאֵל בַּת־מַטְרֵד בַּת מֵי זָהָב׃

51And Hadad died. The clans of Edom were the clans of Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

נאוַיָּמָת הֲדָד וַיִּהְיוּ אַלּוּפֵי אֱדוֹם אַלּוּף תִּמְנָע אַלּוּף עליה [עַלְוָה] אַלּוּף יְתֵת׃

52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

נבאַלּוּף אָהֳלִיבָמָה אַלּוּף אֵלָה אַלּוּף פִּינֹן׃

53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

נגאַלּוּף קְנַז אַלּוּף תֵּימָן אַלּוּף מִבְצָר׃

54Magdiel, and Iram; these are the clans of Edom.

נדאַלּוּף מַגְדִּיאֵל אַלּוּף עִירָם אֵלֶּה אַלּוּפֵי אֱדוֹם׃
