Hannah appears at the very beginning of the book of Samuel where she entreats God for a child. Her heartfelt supplication is answered and she soon gives birth to the prophet Samuel. Hannah introduced the concept of silent, personal, prayer and many of the laws of prayer are learned from how she desperately petitioned God for a child. Hannah was also one of the seven prophetesses.
